Immunecare Lactoferrin (Apo lactoferrin) 30 capsules

£39.95

The antiviral effect of Lactoferrin lies in the early phase of infection. Lactoferrin prevents entry of virus in the host cell, either by blocking cellular receptors, or by direct binding to the virus particles.
We are currently only able to supply Immunecare Apo Lactoferrin, which is by far the more potent form of Lactoferrin. Holo Lactoferrin, the weaker form of Lactoferrin is supplied by Ecological Formulas on our website.

Lactoferrin is a natural defensive protein present in the body. Immunecare Apo Lactoferrin has three to four times the iron binding capability of standard Lactoferrin. Studies indicate that it is particularly superior to normal Lactoferrin in improving bone density and the repair of intestinal epithelial cells.In her book on the H5N1 virus, ‘The Survivor’s Guide to Bird Flu‘, Professor Jayney Goddard notes that Lactoferrin is very useful against influenza. She describes how Lactoferrin increases mucosal immunity, which is vital for resisting viruses, and reduces inflammation, which is one of the ways viruses cause such a problem to the body.

Lactoferrin is safe to take when pregnant.

Detailed Description

Lactoferrin is a single defensive immune protein, which is 100% pure and natural. Lactoferrin is already part of your body’s immune defence system, and it is found in the mucosal linings of the body, such as the gut, airways, mouth, and in tears to keep the eyes healthy and protected from pathogens.

This is especially important as these are the targets for viruses to spread.

Far from being a new thing, Lactoferrin has been astounding medical and scientific researchers since 1975, and there are over 2000 peer reviewed, published scientific papers on this remarkable supplement.

You don’t have to take our word for it; these scientific reviews say it all:

Scientific paper Abstract

The antiviral effect of Lactoferrin lies in the early phase of infection. Lactoferrin prevents entry of virus in the host cell, either by blocking cellular receptors, or by direct binding to the virus particles.

It is therefore ideal to take as a protective agent to minimise the risks of viral infection.

Lactoferrin is an iron-binding protein present in large quantities in colostrum and in breast milk, in external secretions and in polymorphonuclear leukocytes. Lactoferrin’s main function is non-immune protection. Among several protective activities shown by lactoferrin, those that are antiviral displayed by orally administered lactoferrin are:

(i) antimicrobial activity, which has been presumed due to iron deprivation, but more recently attributed also to a specific interaction with the bacterial cell wall and extended to viruses and parasites;

(ii) immunomodulatory activity, with a direct effect on the immune system, together with a specific antinflammatory effects;

(iii) a more recently discovered anticancer activity. It is worth noting that most of the protective activities of lactoferrin have been found, sometimes to a greater extent, also in peptides derived from limited proteolysis of lactoferrin that could be generated after lactoferrin ingestion.

Lactoferrin could therefore be considered an ideal nutraceutic product because of its relatively cheap production from bovine milk and of its widely recognized tolerance after ingestion, along with its well demonstrated protective activities. The most important protective activities shown by orally administered bovine lactoferrin are reviewed in this article.

Scientific paper Abstract

Milk contains an array of proteins with useful bioactivities. Many milk proteins encompassing native or chemically modified casein, lactoferrin, alpha-lactalbumin, and beta-lactoglobulin demonstrated antiviral activities.

  • Several mammalian lactoferrins prevented hepatitis C infection.
  • Lactoferrin, inhibited human cytomegalovirus.
  • Lactoferrin and lactoferricin, inhibited HSV.
  • Lactoferrin displayed anti-avian influenza A activity.
  • Lactoferrin inhibited respiratory syncytial virus, hepatitis B virus, adenovirus, poliovirus, hantavirus, sindbis virus, semliki forest virus, echovirus, and enterovirus.
  • Lactoferrin, demonstrated antihuman rotavirus activity.
